VLC media player is a free and open source cross-platform multimedia player that supports a wide range of multimedia files, including discs, devices, and network streaming protocols.

This is the Android™ version of VLC media player. VLC for Android allows you to play any video and audio files, as well as network streams, network shares and drives, and DVD ISOs, just like the desktop version of VLC.

Features:

• VLC for Android™ supports playback of most local video and audio files, network streams (including adaptive streaming), DVD ISOs, and disk shares.
• All formats are supported, including MKV, MP4, AVI, MOV, Ogg, FLAC, TS, M2TS, Wv, and AAC. The necessary codecs are included with no need for separate downloads. Subtitles, Teletext, and Closed Captions are also supported.
• VLC for Android includes a media library for organizing audio and video files. It also allows for direct browsing of folders.
• It supports multi-track audio and subtitles and offers features such as auto-rotation, aspect-ratio adjustments, and gestures to control volume, brightness, and seeking.

Permissions:

• VLC for Android requires access to the following:
• "Photos/Media/Files" to read all of your media files.
• "Storage" to read media files from SD cards.
• "Other" to check network connections, change volume, set the ringtone, run on Android TV, and display the popup view.

Permission Details:

• To read your media files on USB storage, VLC needs permission to "read the contents of your USB storage".
• To allow deletion of files and store subtitles, VLC needs permission to "modify or delete the contents of your USB storage".
• To open network and internet streams, VLC requires "full network access".
• In order to prevent your phone from sleeping while watching a video, VLC needs permission to "prevent phone from sleeping".
• To change audio volume, VLC requires permission for "change your audio settings".
• To change your audio ringtone, VLC needs permission to "modify system settings".
• In order to monitor network connections, VLC needs permission to "view network connections".
• To start the custom picture-in-picture widget, VLC requires permission to "draw over other apps".
• To provide feedback on the controls, VLC needs permission for "control vibration".
• On Android TV devices, VLC needs permission to run at startup and set recommendations on the Android TV launcher screen. It will also ask for permission to access the microphone for voice search on Android TV devices.
